Growth Signals

Last week, a PMM made me smile from ear to ear.

We’ve been working on impact using emotion and point of view.

Our first work – a year ago – was on a presentation to the CEO & exec team.

She’d prepared 17 well-reasoned, objective, detailed slides.
All facts, no emotions, no point of view.

We shifted it to a 3-slide presentation, delivered with crisp, short sentences.
Breathing correctly. Communicating excitement. Asserting her point of view.

Then we did an hour rehearsal.
But to her it felt like 2 hours.
I kept interrupting, making her start over.
Working on sentences. Working on breath.

Afterwards she said
“That pushed me WAY outside my comfort zone”

And the meeting got rave reviews from the CEO.

Fast forward to last week

She said
“The things you had me to try early-on were really uncomfortable at first
But they worked better.

“And I’ve been pushing myself out of my comfort zone more often, recently.
And it’s working better.

“So now I think discomfort is a sign I’m pushing myself to grow.”

Self-awareness for the win!

So ask yourself, what is your growth signal?
